TSA Best Management Practices for
Seed Fields

  • Dense stands
Apply Milestone™ (5 to 7 fl. oz/A) or Forefront™ (2 to 2.6 pt/A) in the spring or early summer when the plants are actively growing. If fruit are present at time of application, it would be best to mow that area prior to seed harvest to ensure that no TSA seed are gathered in the harvesting process. Monitor the treated area beginning in the late summer for escaped plants and be prepared to spot-spray with either Milestone, Forefront, or Remedy™ in the fall if needed. Continue to monitor this site for 1 year and determine if additional spot-spraying is sufficient, or if the entire area should receive another broadcast application.

  • Sparse stands
Spot spray with Milestone, Forefront, or Remedy in the spring, and then monitor every 45-60 days to determine if additional spot-spraying is necessary.

  • If TSA has been a significant problem in part of a pasture for many years, it is best to avoid harvesting this area. It is better to sacrifice a portion of the pasture, than to transport TSA seed.
